WESTERN SYDNEY AIRPORT TO HAVE RAIL FROM DAY ONE

A Metro rail line for Western Sydney Airport opening in 2026

The NSW Liberals & Nationals Government will deliver the first stage of a new North-South Metro Rail Line connecting St Marys Station and Western Sydney Airport.

We will start construction on the North-South line from St Marys through Western Sydney Airport, to the new Aerotropolis by 2021.

A NSW Liberals & Nationals Government will provide funding for half of the cost of the Metro. The remainder will be funded by the Australian Government, under the Western Sydney City Deal.

Business case development is currently underway, jointly funded by both governments.

Stage 1 will run from St Marys Station through Western Sydney Airport to the new Aerotropolis, and will be open by 2026.

This will provide a convenient interchange with the existing Sydney Trains T1 Western Line, and form the start of a future North South Rail Line across Western Sydney from Schofields through to Macarthur.

This will see the west, north west, and south west of Sydney connected like never before.

Western Sydney Airport will be a major employment and lifestyle destination expected to support almost 28,000 direct and indirect jobs by 2031.

The NSW and Australian governments are already delivering a $3.6 billion road package for Western Sydney. This includes a new M12 motorway that will connect the M7 to the Airport, together with upgrades to the Northern Road and Bringelly Road.

The North South Rail Line will be the fifth metro rail project being delivered by the NSW Liberals & Nationals in Sydney.

Unlike the previous Labor government, that announced and cancelled metro and rail lines, we have the track record of actually delivering. The first stage of the Metro rail network will open in North West Sydney in just a few months, while tunnelling is already underway on the Metro City & South West projects.

A NSW Liberals & Nationals Government will:

  • Deliver the first stage of a new North-South Metro Rail Line connecting St Marys Station and Western Sydney Airport.
  • Provide initial funding of more than $2 billion over the next four years to deliver this new rail line, with work to begin within two years so that it will be ready for the airport’s opening in 2026.
