Shadow Minister for Roads

Paul Toole MP
Shadow Minister for Regional Transport and Roads

Families, farmers and businesses across NSW deserve a straight answer on the Minns Labor Government’s plan as more petrol stations run dry.

The Minns Labor Government admits it is war-gaming emergency powers to ration and divert fuel across the state, highlighting the seriousness of the situation but has refused to explain what would trigger those measures and how it would work.

Shadow Minister for Roads, Mark Coure said drivers have been dealing with surging prices and empty bowsers for days.

“The Iran conflict broke out weeks ago and bowsers are already dry, it’s unacceptable that the Minns Labor Government is only now scrambling to put a plan together to protect NSW,” Mr Coure said.

“Drivers who rely on their cars and trucks deserve to know details of what will be done, a vague reassurance that planning is underway is far from enough and will do nothing to alleviate stress and panic buying.”

“This will have serious consequences for the economy and essential services. If diesel runs short, trucks stop moving, supermarket shelves don’t get stocked and businesses can’t operate.”

Shadow Minister for Regional Transport and Roads, Paul Toole, said regional communities are already being hit hardest with fuel supply disruptions continuing.

“Regional NSW runs on petrol and diesel. Farmers need it to harvest, truck drivers need it to move freight, and families need it to get to work, school and medical appointments,” Mr Toole said.

“That’s why the Roads Minister needs to guarantee fuel supply for NSW motorists, because any disruption would hit regional communities, small businesses and our freight network first and hardest.”

“Independent servos are the backbone of fuel supply in many regional towns, and governments must ensure they are not left at the back of the queue when it comes to fuel deliveries.”
