An elected Dutton Liberal Government has committed $120 million to deliver a birthing service at Rouse Hill Hospital to give mothers certainty during the current maternity health crisis.
The commitment will see the incorporation of birthing rooms, a maternity inpatient unit and additional staffing areas in addition to the existing plan to have post and pre-natal maternity services at the new Rouse Hill Hospital.
Shadow Minister for Health and Aged Care and Shadow Minister for Sport, Senator the Hon Anne Ruston, said that Labor is overseeing a maternity health crisis across the country, with at least 11 private birthing hospitals closing under the Albanese Government.
"These closures put even greater pressure on the public sector, reducing timely access to care,” Senator Ruston said.
"This is the second time in a matter of months that Federal Labor has had to bail out the failings of the NSW Labor Government in public maternity services.”
"Labor has failed expectant mothers across the country by ignoring this escalating national crisis."
Liberal candidate for Greenway, Rattan Virk, said that despite planning for Rouse Hill Hospital commencing in 2017, NSW Labor is not expected to complete the build until 2029.
“NSW Labor has taken our growing community in the northwest for granted as proven by its preparedness to build Rouse Hill Hospital without birthing services – comparable to those at Blacktown Hospital and Westmead Hospital – until Federal Labor has bailed them out just weeks before a Federal Election,” Dr Virk said.
“Expectant mothers deserve more certainty than what has been offered by Labor, so I am pleased that a Dutton Liberal Government, is committed to delivering this essential care, in addition to the Medicare Urgent Care Clinic we committed to for Rouse Hill.”
This commitment is part of the Liberals plan to get Australia back on track.
