Morrison Government To Grow Veteran Surf Program

Wednesday, 18 May 2022
A re-elected Morrison Government will provide $60,000 for the Veteran Surf Project (VSP) to expand their program, which runs weekly at Seven Mile Beach in Gerroa.

The VSP is a not-for-profit organisation that offers support to Australian veterans suffering from Post-Traumatic-Stress-Disorder, through surf therapy and socialising.

Liberal candidate for Gilmore, Andrew Constance, said veterans deserve our full support, and this funding will allow the program to increase their membership from 700 to 1,325 people.

“The project is one of the most inspiring programs I’ve come across,” Mr Constance said.

“The combination of the ocean, sense of community, fitness and socialising has been a literal lifesaver.”

Greg Williams is a member of the Veteran Surf Project and had previously suffered suicidal thoughts.

“Since I started the program, those thoughts have just gone. That’s why it is so important to get more veterans involved,” Mr Williams said.

“I believe every veteran who has come through the program has had their lives changed.
“It has given them the confidence to get back out there.”

Only the Liberals can be trusted to keep the economy strong and secure a stronger future for the residents across Gilmore.
