$600,000 For Parramatta Womens Shelter

Wednesday, 18 May 2022
A re-elected Morrison Government will provide $600,000 to the Parramatta Women’s Shelter to support women seeking emergency accommodation in Western Sydney.

The Parramatta Women’s Shelter was established in 2019 as a community led shelter and has assisted more than 250 women and children escape domestic and family violence and homelessness.

The $600,000 will go towards improving the shelter to create more independent living spaces. Four separate living units will be built to provide women and families with more privacy during an exceptionally challenging period in their lives.

Liberal candidate for Parramatta, Maria Kovacic, said the funding would ensure the Parramatta Women’s Shelter could expand the crucial work they do in the Western Sydney community.

“We know that one in three women have experienced physical violence since the age of 15, and we must ensure the right resources and infrastructure are in place to help these women leave dangerous situations,” Ms Kovacic said.

“The Parramatta Women’s Shelter supports new beginnings for women and children who need a safe space to stay.

“Preventing domestic violence is something I am extremely passionate about, and committed to, and I will continue to be a strong advocate for these women if I am elected.”

Only the Liberals have a plan for a strong economy and a strong future for Western Sydney.
