Morrison Government Pledges $60,000 To Support Womens Rehabilitation Centre

Thursday, 19 May 2022
A re-elected Morrison Government will provide vital funding for security upgrades to support ‘The Glen for Women’ on the New South Wales Central Coast.

Established in 1994, The Glen has helped 4,000 men on the Central Coast recover from drug and alcohol addiction through its 12-week residential program.

The Glen has recently established a program for Indigenous women at Wyong Creek which will cater for 20 women who will live on site for a minimum of 12-weeks.

The $60,000 provided by the Morrison Government as part of its Safer Communities fund will go towards:
• 28 CCTV cameras
• 15 security lights
• One fence and gate item
• One security and alarm system
• One intercom and swipe access system
• 11 security doors
• 25 external blast walls or windows.

Liberal candidate for Dobell, Dr Michael Feneley, said the funding will improve the safety of already vulnerable women.

“This is a place women come to get help, and we want to make sure they have peace of mind while here,” Mr Feneley said.

“The additional security features will deter further criminal and anti-social behaviour, control access and assist law enforcement in apprehending offenders.

“The Glen for Women is a fantastic initiative, and I am proud of our community for establishing it.

“I hope many women come forward, get the help they need and use the facility as a reset to get their lives back on track.

The program at The Glen for Women is a holistic, abstinence-based program that includes:

• Group counselling sessions, purposeful life skills, sports, cooking, personal training, parenting programs, AA & NA Meetings, community work and education.
• The programs are client focused and provide the following support services:
o Grief and trauma counselling
o Financial counselling
o Relationship counselling
o Gambling counselling
o Psychology support

The Glen for Women will empower our women and offer them the skills to leave the program with a sense of purpose and fulfilment.

Only the Liberals have a plan to deliver a strong economy and a stronger future for the residents of Dobell.
