Kennedy Pledges Funding to Upgrade George Kendall Reserve

Friday, 13 May 2022
A re-elected Morrison Government would invest $2.5 million to support the upgrade of George Kendall Reserve to create two new playing fields, one for AFL and one for cricket.

Liberal Candidate for Bennelong, Simon Kennedy, said that the $5 million project, co-funded by the City of Parramatta, would transform a currently unusable park space into AFL and cricket fields.

The upgrade will include irrigation, drainage, lighting and public amenities, giving the Parramatta Lions Junior AFL Club, North Ryde Dockers Junior AFL Club and Northern District Junior Cricket Association access to great new sporting infrastructure.

“This investment will help to boost grassroots participation, particularly among the junior footballers and cricketers,” Mr Kennedy said.

“If elected on May 21, I intend to fight for further investment in the local infrastructure that Bennelong needs.
“The George Kendall Reserve is an example of local infrastructure that the Morrison Government can invest in as a result of its strong economic plan.

Parramatta Lions Junior AFL President Club, Brad Main, said increasing female participation was a key objective for the club.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for us to promote the code to a wider audience. Having a modern, purpose-built facility will help us promote the code to new players, particularly girls who will have access to their own change rooms,” Mr Main said.

Northern District Cricket Association President Shane Cotton said that more than one third of the recent summer season at George Kendall Reserve had been lost, in large part due to the lack of a modern drainage system.

“Our Association warmly welcomes this investment in grassroots cricket. Our players need access to playing fields that are more weather-resistant, with modern drainage systems. This investment will minimise play lost and increase participation.”

Only the Morrison Government has a plan to continue delivering a strong economy and a stronger future for Bennelong.
