A Dutton Coalition Government will deliver an Urgent Care Clinic for the Green Valley and surrounding areas, providing this fast-growing community with better access to primary healthcare.
Local families in the Green Valley and the surrounding areas have been significantly impacted by Labor’s primary healthcare crisis.
Medicare bulk billing rates have collapsed from 88 per cent under the Coalition to 77 per cent under Mr Albanese and Labor, as families are forced to pay the highest out-of-pocket costs on record.
As a result, 1.5 million Australians avoided seeing a GP last financial year because they could not afford it under Labor.
This is only adding further demand to already under-pressure hospitals across Werriwa. The Emergency Department at Liverpool Hospital has seen a 25% increase in non-urgent presentations and a 23% increase in semi-urgent presentations in the July 2024 quarter alone.
Liberal candidate for Werriwa, Sam Kayal, said he had been advocating hard for this commitment to make sure that South West Sydney has access to the services it desperately needs.
“Our growing population is being left without affordable access to necessary health services,” Mr Kayal said. “The Albanese Labor Government and its MP have had three years to deliver an Urgent Care Clinic, but failed.”
“The Labor Government has been taking this growing part of Sydney for granted, as things continue to get harder and harder for the local households – it has never been harder or more expensive to see a GP.”
“Since Labor came to power, bulk billing numbers in Werriwa have dropped - with 213,000 fewer bulk billing services delivered. Local families are already struggling with the cost of living, and now they are paying 45% more today than three years ago to see a GP.”
Deputy Leader of the Opposition, Sussan Ley said this commitment showed the focus that a Dutton Liberal Government would have on delivering for the Werriwa community.
“Sam has been a tireless campaigner for his community and its needs, and securing this primary health commitment is a great example of his ability to be a strong voice for Werriwa in Parliament.”
“Only a Liberal Government will ensure that Werriwa has the affordable healthcare access it desperately needs, easing the pressure on families and local hospitals.”
Shadow Minister for Western Sydney, Melissa McIntosh said Werriwa and South West Sydney is growing and access to quality healthcare is much needed.
"The community right across Liverpool are feeling the pinch of healthcare cost rises thanks to the Albanese Labor Government," said Mrs McIntosh.
"Thanks to Sam's terrific advocacy for the people of Werriwa, the Coalition is proud to announce a needed Medicare Urgent Care Clinic in Green Valley."
Shadow Minister for Health and Aged Care, Senator Anne Ruston, said that the Liberals were focused on ensuring all Australians have timely and affordable access to a GP.
“We recognise the urgent need for better access to affordable health services in the middle of Labor’s primary healthcare crisis,” Shadow Minister Ruston said.
“The Liberals will deliver Urgent Care Clinics as they were intended — focused on relieving pressure on local hospitals and providing real access to bulk billed urgent healthcare.”
