The Minns Labor Government has abandoned common sense, choosing to permanently carve up Moore Park Golf Course rather than pursue a solution that would have preserved the iconic 18-hole public course and delivered additional public open space.

Labor has begun to fence off sections of the course, pressing ahead with its decision to dismantle one of Australia's busiest and most accessible public golf facilities despite widespread community opposition.

Leader of the Opposition Kellie Sloane said once again the government was ignoring the people who don’t agree with them.

“Labor should abandon this plan and take the win-win compromise being offered by golfers. Protecting an 18-hole golf course and opening up more green space to the public is the common-sense approach,” Ms Sloane said.

"The Government has tried to frame this as golf versus open space, but anyone who has spent time in Moore Park knows there is already an enormous amount of publicly accessible green space surrounding the course."

Shadow Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Chris Rath said the golf course has been used by people from all corners of Sydney for generations.

"Instead of working with, and listening to, the community to improve both recreation and open space, Labor has chosen to permanently remove a public facility that thousands of people use every year," Mr Rath said.

“Labor has also budgeted $50 million to deliver the Moore Park South Establishment Plan. But their own business case shows that it will cost four times that. The public have a right to know the true cost of this project.”
