The booming NSW jobs market has been given a boost with the global online retailer, Amazon, choosing Sydney’s south-west for its biggest fulfilment centre in Australia.
The company will open a 43,000 square metre facility at the Goodman Centenary Distribution Centre at Moorebank in the second half of the year.
NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian welcomed the news. “To have a global online shopping retailer choosing Sydney as a key location for its Australian operations is a huge win for NSW,” Ms Berejiklian said.
“This will also give NSW small businesses a fantastic platform to take advantage of Amazon’s distribution network to send their products to millions of customers across Australia.”
The Moorebank fulfilment centre is almost double the size of Amazon’s current facility in Victoria and builds on the hundreds of jobs the company has already created.
“This boost for Moorebank is proof the NSW Government’s record investment in road and transport infrastructure is attracting major business investment and generating thousands of new jobs,” Ms Berejiklian said.
“Since the Liberals & Nationals came to office in 2011 we have delivered more than 480,000 new jobs. The announcement by Amazon keeps NSW on track to have created a million new jobs by 2025.”
Member for Holsworthy, Melanie Gibbons welcomed the decision. “Our community welcomes Amazon for the jobs this investment will bring to Moorebank”.
“The NSW Government is encouraging investment in Western Sydney, which has led to the lowest unemployment rate in our region, on record.”
Amazon plans to open its new Moorebank facility later this year, and positions available will include operations, support and technical specialists.
