An elected Liberal Government will deliver $700,000 to provide retractable indoor cricket nets at Waverley Oval.

Liberal for Wentworth, Ro Knox, secured this commitment to ensure the whole community has access to indoor cricket nets at Waverley Oval – home of the Eastern Suburbs Cricket Club (Easts Dolphins). Easts is the second largest cricket club in Australia and is committed to growing cricket among girls and boys.

"I’ve had strong feedback from the community that the new indoor cricket nets at Waverley Oval will allow year-round training and enhance junior participation,” Ro Knox said.

Peter Lovitt, Vice President of Easts Cricket, said that this vital upgrade to Waverley Oval will better support local sporting groups and make this a true multisport facility.

“Thanks to Ro for listening to what we needed, fighting for this project, and announcing that a Liberal Government will deliver it for our community,” Mr Lovitt said.

“Having the ability to train all year-round while working in with the other sports supports all levels of the game,” said Matt Lawrance, fellow Vice President of Easts Cricket.

Shadow Treasurer, Angus Taylor, thanked Ro Knox and the Wentworth community for their advocacy for this project.

“This announcement shows that Ro knows what her community needs, will fight for her community, and ensure a Liberal Government delivers for it,” Mr Taylor said.

Mayor of Waverley Council, Will Nemesh, said “there is nothing more Australian than playing cricket, and this commitment will provide opportunity for locals of all ages to play and practice year-round. Space is at a premium in the Eastern Suburbs so this is a smart investment in our future.”

This commitment is part of the Liberals plan to strengthen our local communities and to get Australia back on track.
