The NSW Government is building five powerhouse economic precincts across regional NSW that will create up to 18,000 new jobs, attract new investors and strengthen regional economies.
Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW John Barilaro said the ‘Special Activation Precinct’ (SAP) program provides a roadmap for investment across the state and is calling on industries to choose regional NSW.
“Parkes, Wagga Wagga, Moree, Williamtown and the Snowy Mountains present huge opportunities with soon to be world-class business precincts that will become hives of activity and create career opportunities for generations to come,” Mr Barilaro said.
“There is no better place to invest in this state than a Special Activation Precinct – serviced land prices can be as low as five percent of metro prices; we take care of master planning and developing the land; and will cover costs including connecting electricity, sewerage and other enabling infrastructure so businesses arrive, ready to operate.
“We are investing $1 billion into these precincts and investigating more than 95,000 hectares of land across regional NSW that will be ready for business and investors.
“The Parkes Precinct will be an inland port and the new epicentre of Australia’s freight network, the Williamtown Precinct is the future of our aerospace and defence industries, the Moree Precinct will take Australia’s agriculture to the world, Wagga Wagga will have a world-class business precinct, and the Snowy Mountains Precinct will be Australia’s alpine and adventure tourism playground.”
Special Activation Precincts, regional NSW’s version of economic development zones, will cut red and green tape with a 30-day target for planning approvals. Each precinct will maintain the local appeal and amenity of the area so economic and job growth don’t compromise the regional lifestyle locals love.
“Now, more than ever, people are realising they don’t need to be in a major city to innovate and do business with the world – regional NSW is a smart choice, not a second choice,” Mr Barilaro said.
