The Federal Government has committed to improving lighting facilities at sporting fields across the southern Bankstown area, pledging to provide the Bankstown District Amateur Football Association $250, 000 if re-elected.
As part of this funding, sports fields across the southern Bankstown area - such as Marco Reserve in Panania which is used by St Christopher’s Football Club - will see their lighting facilities improved.
Mr David Coleman, the Federal Member for Banks, has welcomed news of this commitment, noting the importance of these upgrades.
“For too long local sporting groups have had to play in poorly-lit conditions,” Mr Coleman said. “Improving lighting standards will enable local sporting teams and residents to make better use of our local parks.”
“It’s really important that lighting is up-to-scratch for local athletes and residents, and I am glad that this funding has committed.”
Mrs Leanne Millar, the Interim General Manager of the Bankstown District Amateur Football Association, has also welcomed this funding commitment.
“Improving lighting at our local sports fields will make it easier for local sports clubs to train and play in low-light conditions, as well as provide a better experience for spectators,” Mrs Millar said. “These improvements will also help improve security and safety for local families.”
