Former Naval Commander and commercial airline pilot Grange Chung has been selected as the Liberal Candidate for Reid.
Born and raised in Sydney, Grange has lived throughout Australia and Asia. He enlisted in the Royal Australian Navy and attended the Australian Defence Force Academy, where he graduated with Honours in Electrical Engineering. As a Naval Officer, Grange undertook operational service and seagoing, intelligence, representational and policy roles.
After transferring to the Australian Navy Reserve, Grange became a pilot in the Singapore Airlines Group. He flew the Boeing B747 and B777 before becoming a Captain on the Boeing B787. Grange undertook various aviation management and training roles, while remaining an active Navy reservist. Grange was appointed to several Reserve positions, including the management of infrastructure projects.
Grange then returned to the permanent Navy, where he was appointed to senior staff positions. Having served our nation across the globe, Grange is now campaigning for the opportunity to represent the people of Reid and is determined to ease the pressures that households are facing under Labor's cost of living crisis.
“I now own the home I bought here in the 90s as a junior officer. It saddens me that young people don’t have the same opportunities to enter the housing market, which I had, when I was young.”
“Reid needs a representative who will stand up and fight for our community,” Mr Chung said. “Labor has forgotten about us - they’re more interested in empty symbolic gestures than in fighting the inflation which has crippled the budgets of local households and small businesses.”
“Only a Coalition Government will rein in inflationary spending to take the pressure off local families and small businesses. We need to cut the red tape which is suffocating our economy and stopping businesses from getting ahead. A future Coalition Government will focus on bringing the federal Budget back under control.”
“Instead of addressing the cause of inflation, Labor has added $315 billion of spending across three budgets, since it came to power. Their feeble attempts to manipulate the headline inflation rate only serves as a smoke screen for the underlying issue,” Mr Chung said. “This means Australians are paying more for their mortgage, rent, electricity, groceries and petrol due to Labor’s failed economic management.”
“I am not one who backs down from a tough challenge – and I’m ready to fight for the needs of Reid’s small businesses and households. Furthermore, I will relentlessly pursue the delivery of much needed local services and infrastructure.”
“I will work hard to secure more local jobs and investment in Reid’s roads, schools, hospitals and green spaces – which will only happen with a strong Liberal representative who knows how to deliver infrastructure.”
“As a Veteran, I will fight to reprioritise Canberra-centric funding and make additional investment in Defence, to enhance the capability of our service men and women.”
“Labor has a terrible track record in NSW – whether it’s cutting billions in infrastructure funding or promising almost a hundred times that electricity prices would come down by $275; when in fact they have increased drastically.”
“While Labor has failed the people of Reid, the Liberal Party has a strong record of delivering what our community needs – lower power prices, lower interest rates and lower taxes.”
