FREE VEHICLE REGO A WIN FOR THE WEST

1 July 2018

Drivers in North Western and Western Sydney will benefit the most from free vehicle registration under the NSW Government’s Toll Relief program, which starts today.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian joined Minister for Finance, Services and Property Victor Dominello to acknowledge the milestone and reveal the suburbs with the most eligible drivers.

Drivers spending $25 per week or more on tolls, or $1,300 over the financial year, on one tag, will save up to $729 when they renew their vehicle registration via the Service NSW website.

“About 100,000 drivers across NSW are expected to benefit, with those in Baulkham Hills, Castle Hill, Blacktown, Quakers Hill, Glenwood, St Clair and other Western Sydney areas among the top 20 suburbs,” Ms Berejiklian said.

“Drivers can simply add their licence plate number to their toll account, then during the registration renewal process, Service NSW will tell you if get a free car rego.”

Mr Dominello said the Government is backdating toll spend from 1 July 2017 up to 30 June 2018, so drivers can benefit on what they have spent on tolls over the past year.

“Claiming the free rego is simple and easy and can be done online or by visiting a Service NSW Centre. Even drivers who are not aware that they are eligible will not miss out, as they will be informed when they renew online,” Mr Dominello said.

“So far 938 free regos have been claimed and $397,000 has been given back to drivers, with the average driver saving $423.

“Drivers that are currently opted into the M5 Cashback Scheme will have the choice to opt out and have their M5 tolls count towards Toll Relief or remain in the M5 Cashback Scheme.”

Eligible drivers will be able to claim their free vehicle registration from 1 July 2018. Drivers will need to use their free rego before 30 June 2019.

The program is one of a raft of NSW Government measures helping to ease cost of living pressures for households. The Government has also introduced the FuelCheck app, cheaper hospital car parking, Active Kids vouchers and CTP reforms.
