The NSW Liberals and Nationals have renewed their urgent call for e-bike reform after media reports of an e-bikie gang cruising down the Sydney Harbour Bridge during peak hour traffic this afternoon, in a shocking incident that underscores the Minns Labor Government’s ongoing failure to address this clear community issue.
While the NSW Liberals and Nationals have put forward a clear, practical policy to introduce identification plates for young riders and commercial e-bike operators to actually enforce rules, change behaviour and prevent crashes, the Minns Government has continued to do nothing.
In Question Time today, the Shadow Minister for Transport, Natalie Ward, asked the ineffective Minister for Transport, John Graham, if the Government would introduce licence plates for e-bikes while he still has the job.
Minister Graham’s answer was that he was “cautious” to introduce any changes.
The community does not need caution, they need action.
If the responsible Minister won’t step up, they need to step aside.
Shadow Minister for Transport, Natalie Ward, said the anarchy on the people’s bridge was an inevitable consequence of a Government that has refused to act and ignored warnings.
“The Sydney Harbour Bridge is one of the busiest pieces of transport infrastructure in the country,” Ms Ward said.
“These untouchable e-bikie gangs know they can get away with it because they can’t be identified under a soft Government who is ignoring community concerns.”
“Labor has spent months talking about wattage, speed limits and technical definitions, while dangerous behaviour continues in plain sight.”
“Minister Graham and NSW Labor have lost control of e-bike safety in NSW.”
“Communities are asking for accountability, and Labor keeps dodging the question.”
