NSW BIODIVERSITY CONSERVATION TRUST PARTNERS WITH LANDCARE NSW TO DELIVER REGIONAL PROJECTS

Landcare NSW will receive $1.3 million from the NSW Government, in a partnership for a series of regional biodiversity conservation projects across NSW.

Minister for Environment Matt Kean said the funding will be administered by the NSW Biodiversity Conservation Trust (BCT), the NSW government body that delivers private land conservation agreements across NSW.

“The joint project, partnering in private land conservation, enables eligible Landcare groups across NSW to apply for funding for various activities to raise awareness of biodiversity conservation in regional communities, and to work in partnership with the BCT to deliver biodiversity conservation programs,” Mr Kean said.

These activities can include community-based and run projects, workshops, field days, and communications products, story-sharing and other capacity-building activities.

“The Landcare movement in NSW has a long tradition of helping landowners to protect biodiversity as well as threatened species on their land,” said Mr Kean.

“This partnership between the BCT and Landcare NSW continues the tradition of private land conservation in NSW and strengthens the already fine work that private landholders and communities are achieving together, in the biodiversity conservation space.”

“Landcare NSW CEO, Dr Adrian Zammit said that as the peak representative body for community Landcare in NSW, we are delighted to partner with the BCT.

“The partnership enables Landcare NSW to support on-ground community projects, events and activities to make a tangible, long-term difference in local biodiversity conservation. The funding acts as a means to enable local Landcare networks and groups to collaborate to a greater level with the BCT to achieve outcomes for landholders and the wider community.”

Partnering in private land conservation is expected to begin operations in July 2020, subject to any restrictions from the current coronavirus pandemic.
