STATEMENT ON THE 2021-22 FEDERAL BUDGET
- NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet has welcomed the Commonwealth Government’s 2021-22 Budget, which delivers more than $3 billion in funding for road infrastructure projects in NSW, alongside tax relief and training initiatives designed to boost the economy and help drive unemployment below pre-pandemic levels.
- Mr Perrottet said the Commonwealth’s strong focus on supporting working families and creating jobs was teamed with a strong focus on helping the vulnerable and those in need.
- Mr Perrottet said the NSW Government was currently working on its own 2021-22 State Budget, which will be delivered in June.

- The mass vaccination centre at Sydney Olympic Park has opened with thousands of people booked in to receive the COVID-19 vaccine this week.
- During its first weeks of operation, the Centre will focus on delivering Pfizer vaccinations to priority groups including healthcare workers, emergency services workers as well as quarantine and border workers and their households.
- Bookings are required.
- Members of the general public aged 40-49 are invited to register their interest in receiving the Pfizer vaccine through NSW Health. They will be contacted when a booking is available. People aged 40-49 can register here from 5pm: nsw.gov.au/
- From Wednesday 12 May, people aged 50 and over can book their AstraZeneca jab at the mass vaccination centre at Sydney Olympic Park, if they are unable to obtain the vaccination from their GP. These bookings will be available here; covid-vaccine.healthdirect.gov.au/eligibility
- Medical technology is the star of the NSW Government’s first round of the Jobs Plus Program delivering about 280 jobs with Baxter Healthcare and biotechnology company SpeeDx announced as the first businesses to be part of the program.
- Premier Gladys Berejiklian said the $250 million program from Investment NSW was an opportunity for the state to invest in its future prosperity by nurturing industries, technology and stimulating job creation.
- Australian businesses that employ 20 or more staff and international companies with at least 80 employees looking to create a minimum of 30 jobs before June 2024 are eligible to apply for Jobs Plus. - The Singleton community in the Upper Hunter will benefit from a brand new police station, thanks to $12 million in funding from the NSW Government.
- Deputy Premier John Barilaro and Minister for Police and Emergency Services David Elliott joined NSW Nationals candidate for the Upper Hunter Dave Layzell at Singleton Police Station to make the announcement, and said it will be a significant boost for the region.
- In 2020-21, the NSW Government is investing a record $287.7 million in NSW Police Force capital projects.
- The NSW Government will deliver stage 3 of the Muswellbrook Hospital Redevelopment with the planned $45 million project announced by the Deputy Premier John Barilaro alongside the NSW Nationals candidate for the Upper Hunter Dave Layzell.
- Mr Barilaro said the proposed Stage 3, which has been in planning since 2018, will complete the hospital’s redevelopment by consolidating all acute clinical services into one building including Maternity Services which are currently in an isolated building.
- The NSW Government has committed $10.7 billion of capital investment over the four years to 2023-24 on health infrastructure.
- The NSW Government has announced a $50 million package to offer farmers, households and small businesses assistance to battle the mice plague currently impacting parts of rural and regional NSW.
- Deputy Premier John Barilaro and Minister for Agriculture Adam Marshall said free baiting, through free-of-charge grain treatment, would be made available to primary producers, while affected rural and town households and small businesses would be able to apply for rebates to help them meet the cost of purchasing mouse baits.

- Two new metro stations have been confirmed at Pyrmont and Hunter Street for the Sydney Metro West project, which will connect Parramatta to the CBD in around 20 minutes.
- Premier Gladys Berejiklian said the Hunter Street station will have one entrance on the corner of Hunter and George Streets, and another on the corner of Bligh and O’Connell Streets, connecting customers to suburban rail lines as well as light rail.
- Pyrmont and Hunter Street now join the other station locations which have been confirmed for Sydney Metro West - Westmead, Parramatta, Sydney Olympic Park, North Strathfield, Burwood North, Five Dock and The Bays.
- Sydney Metro expects to award the first major tunnelling contract for the Sydney Metro West project in the middle of this year, ensuring that tunnel boring machines can be in the ground by the end of next year.
- Communities across NSW will be better protected during natural disasters, after the announcement of $6.2 million to upgrade 31 Emergency Operations Centres.
- Emergency Operations Centres (EOCs) provide a central site for communication and coordination of operations and support during an emergency.
- Resilience NSW is working closely with councils to develop funding agreements which reflect their particular requirements.
- From comedy events and live band nights to roving carnival performers, Sydney is the place for entertainment after the NSW Government announced funding for an additional 10 recipients in Round 2 of the Play the City initiative.
- Treasurer Dominic Perrottet said the initiative had proven popular since its launch, attracting people back to the city and supporting jobs in the entertainment and hospitality sectors.
- The $363,000 extra funding for Round 2 brings the total support for the Play the City (Sydney) NSW Artists and Musicians Grants to more than $1.86 million.
- One of Sydney’s oldest ferries will be given a new lease of life by the largest Aboriginal Maritime charity in Australia thanks to a $300,000 NSW Government grant.
