People of NSW shortchanged by Labor
The Federal Labor Government has today shortchanged every single person in New South Wales by dudding the State of its fair share of road and rail projects.
Minister for Infrastructure Rob Stokes said the NSW Government was powering the nation’s economy on the back of its $112.7 billion infrastructure pipeline and that the Albanese Government wasn’t doing enough to help.
“The NSW Government is doing the heavy lifting when it comes to infrastructure in Australia, spending more than all other states and territories and a lot more than the Federal Government,” Mr Stokes said.
“Yet despite being the most populous state, Victoria and the Northern Territory will receive more than double the amount of federal funding as NSW, while Queensland will receive an additional $470 million.
“That means $10,729 has been allocated for every Northern Territory citizen, while a mere $122 has been committed for every New South Wales citizen.
“NSW Labor has an appalling record on infrastructure. Labor conference is on this weekend and Chris Minns’ silence on this issue is deafening. If he was fair dinkum, he’d be fighting the Federal Government for our share.”
Minister for Transport, Veterans and Western Sydney David Elliott said it wasn’t fair that Labor states were receiving more funding.
“We’ve handed the Albanese Government a long list of infrastructure projects that desperately need funding in Western Sydney, around the Aerotropolis and in Regional NSW,” Mr Elliott said.
“It took a NSW Coalition Government to rebuild NSW, with $178 billion worth of projects delivered since we came to power in 2011.
“It’s time for the Federal Government to stop playing favourites when it comes to allocating taxpayers’ money and prioritise the spending where it’s needed most.”
