Serena Copley announced as Liberal for Kiama
Mark Speakman
NSW Liberal Party Leader
Liberal Leader Mark Speakman has asked the people of the Kiama electorate to choose action over inaction, saying that Labor shouldn’t be rewarded for its cuts, neglect and inaction.
“Families are struggling with growing bills, businesses are battling to keep their doors open, and Labor’s answer has been cut after cut, from transport, roads and infrastructure, to health services and cost-of-living support,” Mr Speakman said.
“For over two years Labor has neglected the Kiama electorate. The Premier has shown no interest in families doing it tough here, in small businesses under pressure, or in seniors facing hardship. Local roads have deteriorated and Labor has also presided over the worst on-time performance for the region’s trains since records started.
“Now, on the eve of a by-election, Chris Minns suddenly sweeps into town from Sydney expecting people to forget his neglect and ignore the damage caused by Labor’s cuts. Kiama locals should ask themselves, are you better off under Labor? Is your commute easier or harder? Is it easier or harder to access healthcare? If the answer is life is tougher, then Labor doesn’t deserve to be rewarded.”
Mr Speakman said the Liberals have a proven record of delivery in the region.
“Through strong economic management, the NSW Liberals made huge infrastructure investments locally, but Labor is missing in action, offering nothing new, despite the needs of a fast-growing population. We duplicated the Princes Highway the whole way through the electorate (including Albion Park Rail and Berry to Bomaderry), built the new Nowra Bridge, planned, funded and kicked off the redeveloped Shoalhaven Hospital, kicked off the process for the $700 million Shellharbour Hospital, delivered the new Kiama ambulance station, opened the Kiama Integrated Primary and Community Health Centre, upgraded emergency services across the region, and improved access to surgeries and specialist care.
“We don’t cancel, we don’t cut, we deliver. More infrastructure and better services will always be delivered, and delivered faster, under the NSW Liberals.”
Mr Speakman said Liberal candidate Serena Copley offered a clear alternative.
“Serena Copley has lived here for 30 years, worked here and raised her family here. She has a proven track record of delivering for her community, as a local councillor, as a volunteer, and in her professional life helping young people into work. She will fight for the Kiama electorate and get things done.”
“The Joe Hyam Reserve we stand in today is just one example of what Serena can achieve when given the opportunity. With her on our Liberal team, we will build on the significant investment delivered to the Kiama electorate under the former Liberal Government.”
