Thousands of seniors across NSW are kicking their heels up, with the special Diamond Jubilee Anniversary celebrations underway at this year’s Seniors Festival.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian and Minister for Ageing Tanya Davies today joined the crowds at the Expo and Premier’s Gala Concerts in Sydney to experience some of what the Festival’s 60th year has to offer.

“The NSW Government wants seniors to know how valued their contribution is and we want to thank them for all the hard work they have done and are still doing in our communities,” Ms Berejiklian said.

More than 500,000 seniors are expected to participate in hundreds of free and discounted events being held during the 12-day festival, including yoga, Zumba, jazz concerts, treadmill bingo, art classes and cooking lessons.

Mrs Davies said the NSW Government has invested $200,000 in local organisations to hold activities in line with the Festival’s theme - Let’s Do More Together.

“Councils, businesses and community organisations across NSW have been working hard to prepare exciting events that really celebrate our seniors,” Mrs Davies said.

“From Tai Chi to lunch on a Harbour cruise, there is something for everyone and I encourage people to get out there and take advantage of the wonderful activities throughout the Festival.”

The NSW Seniors Festival runs until Sunday April 15. To find events and activities in your local area visit www.seniorsfestival.nsw.gov.au.
