WESTERN SYDNEY UNEMPLOYMENT AT ALL-TIME LOW

26 July 2018

The unemployment rate in Western Sydney has dropped to 4.9%, the lowest rate since records began.

Western Sydney continues to lead the nation in jobs growth, topping regional jobs growth in all other states combined, as more people living in the fast-growing region found work.

Today’s figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) showed that 205,700 jobs have been created in Western Sydney since 2011.

“Western Sydney is home to the fastest-growing segment of New South Wales and we’re proud of our role in the record jobs growth in this vital region,” NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet said.

“The great news is that there is even more to come, with our record spend on hospitals, schools, roads and rail providing further opportunity for job creation.

“The NSW Liberals & Nationals know that helping create a strong jobs market takes hard work, commitment and a genuine care for workers and their families.”

Employment has also remained strong across Regional NSW with 97,100 jobs added since the last election, more than the regions of all other states combined. More jobs have been created in the regions in the past three years than were created in all of Labor’s last eight years in office.

Last week, ABS data showed that New South Wales added more almost half the jobs in Australia over the year to June as NSW employment rose by 150,400, more than Victoria and Queensland combined.

“Job security is family security and that is at the heart of every decision we make,” Mr Perrottet said.

“Today’s jobs figures show that it is clear which party is really fighting for the rights and opportunities of workers in Western Sydney.”
