The Minns Labor Government has voted against urgently dealing with fuel prices in the middle of a fuel crisis, putting parliamentary games over practical relief.

The Liberals and Nationals today sought to urgently debate new legislation that would introduce a 24-hour fuel price guarantee, providing greater certainty and transparency for drivers. Labor blocked the attempts of the Parliament to deal with the new laws.

Under the Liberals and Nationals plan service stations would have to set and publicly report their maximum price each day and lock it in for 24 hours, preventing sudden price spikes and giving motorists certainty before they fill up.

Opposition Leader, Kellie Sloane, said it is a sensible scheme already working in WA and Victoria.

“Labor has prioritised parliamentary games over practical support for drivers in refusing to debate a sensible plan which would have helped improve transparency during this fuel crisis,” Ms Sloane said.

“The fuel transparency scheme has been backed in by the NRMA which understands that NSW families need help now, not more inaction and political stunts from Labor.”

NSW Nationals Leader, Gurmesh Singh, said the Minns Labor Government has done nothing to help regional families, farmers and businesses.

“The NSW Liberals and Nationals have put forward a fuel transparency scheme and suggested free public transport over the long weekend, meanwhile Chris Minns hasn’t presented a single solution or idea,” Mr Singh said.

“Regional petrol stations are running out of fuel and prices are soaring past $3 a litre. Parliament doesn’t sit again until May – so we need to provide cost of living solutions this week.”
