Business confidence has plummeted to a record low in NSW in a damning indictment of the Minns Labor Government’s economic management.

Business NSW’s latest Business Conditions Survey reveals business confidence has fallen for a third consecutive quarter to -78, lower than during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The survey also reveals 29 per cent of businesses expect to reduce staff over the next three months, the weakest result since Chris Minns and Labor entered office.

NSW Opposition Leader Kellie Sloane said almost one in five NSW businesses are now thinking about shutting their doors for good.

“Behind each one of these businesses is a family and staff working to stay ahead,” Ms Sloane said.

"When business owners are worrying about whether they'll still be open in six months' time, the Minns Government can't keep pretending everything is fine," Ms Sloane said.

NSW shed 44,000 jobs last month, with the downturn expected to disproportionately impact women and young people.

Shadow Minister for Small Business Gurmesh Singh said Chris Minns has driven the state’s unemployment rate to its highest point since late 2021.

“Labor has abandoned those who’ve shown ambition, taken a risk, started a business, and created jobs,” Mr Singh said.
