Liberal Candidate for Paterson, Laurence Antcliff, has today announced that an elected Liberal Government will contribute $240,000 to upgrade Somerset Park Drive No 1.

Liberal Candidate for Paterson, Laurence Antcliff, has today announced that an elected Liberal Government will contribute $240,000 to upgrade Somerset Park Drive No 1.

Laurence Antcliff said that the Liberals have listened to residents and will provide the $240,000 required to protect the fields with new fencing and a scoreboard.

“Residents in Paterson and across the Hunter deserve quality modern sporting facilities, and unfortunately Labor has not been able to provide that,” Laurence Antcliff said.

““This six-figure investment, which can only be delivered by an elected Liberal Government, will protect our fields from intruders and future-proof our community recreation area.”

Protecting Somerset Drive Park No 1 has been a key part of Laurence’s campaign for Paterson, including running a petition for Hunter residents to sign.

Previously, the field had been targeted by vandals and suffered damage caused by motorcycles.

“I’m delighted that thanks to rock-solid campaigning we have been able to deliver this investment for the home of the Thornton Beresfield Bears.

“If I am elected your Federal Member for Paterson, I will remain committed to listening and acting,” said Laurence.

Shadow Minister for Sport, Senator Anne Ruston said that the Liberals are focused on ensuring communities have access to the sporting facilities they need to open up opportunities for more Australians to participate in physical activity.

“By investing in community sporting infrastructure, such as this key local sports field in Paterson, we will make it easier and more enjoyable for local residents to get out there and get active,” Senator Ruston said.

“We know that a healthy and active lifestyle has so many physical and mental benefits for Australians. It improves wellbeing, and it strengthens our community.”
