An elected Dutton Liberal Government will invest $100 million to fund the Westbound Overpass at the Maitland Roundabout in Maitland, demonstrating a strong commitment to delivering productivity enhancing infrastructure.

The project will involve the construction of a westbound flyover at the roundabout near Maitland Station which will alleviate traffic congestion and improve traffic flow on the New England Highway, enhancing safety and efficiency for all road users.

Liberal Candidate for Paterson Laurence Antcliff said it is fantastic to secure funding for the project which will directly address the notorious bottleneck at the Maitland roundabout and provide a long-term solution to traffic woes in the area.

“This is a massive win for Maitland—$100 million towards fixing one of the worst choke points in the Hunter,” Liberal Candidate for Paterson, Mr Antcliff said.

“People in Maitland have been stuck in traffic at this roundabout for far too long. Every single morning and afternoon, thousands of locals hit the brakes, crawling through congestion that should have been fixed years ago.”

“Today the Liberals are responding to calls for a solution to persistent traffic congestion. The initial eastbound flyover was built back in 2014, so this community has waited over 10 years for this westbound section.”

This investment in fixing the Maitland roundabout is just the latest example of the Liberals driving productivity enhancing infrastructure across the Hunter region. By comparison, the Albanese Labor Government has cancelled, cut and delayed more than $30 billion worth of infrastructure projects over the past three years, including putting the Muswellbrook bypass in the slow lane following Labor’s infrastructure review.

This commitment is part of the Liberals plan to strengthen our local communities and to get Australia back on track.
