A Dutton Coalition Government will deliver a new Urgent Care Clinic for the Maitland community.

This important commitment to deliver better access to much needed urgent primary healthcare has been secured thanks to the advocacy of Liberal Candidate for Paterson, Laurence Antcliff.

Maitland has been taken for granted by Labor and has been overlooked for an Urgent Care Clinic. The Coalition will ensure this community is not taken for granted.

Under Labor, it has never been harder or more expensive to see a GP. Medicare bulk billing rates have collapsed from 88 per cent under the Coalition to 77 per cent under Mr Albanese and Labor.

As a result, 1.5 million Australians avoided seeing a GP last financial year because they just could not afford it under Labor. This is only adding further demand to already under-pressure hospitals.

Deputy Leader of the Opposition, Sussan Ley said this commitment underscored what a Dutton Coalition Government would deliver for Maitland and for the Hunter.

“From important primary health commitments like today, or standing up for small businesses and skills, Laurence Antcliff is already delivering for Paterson and he will be a champion for this community in Canberra” The Deputy Leader said.

Shadow Minister for Health and Aged Care, Senator Anne Ruston, said that the Liberals were focused on ensuring all Australians have timely and affordable access to a GP.

“We recognise the urgent need for better access to affordable health services in the middle of Labor’s primary healthcare crisis,” Shadow Minister Ruston said.

“The Liberals will deliver Urgent Care Clinics as they were intended — focused on relieving pressure on local hospitals and providing real access to bulk billed urgent healthcare.”

Liberal Candidate for Paterson, Laurence Antcliff, said that in the three years under Labor, the GP bulk billing rate has dropped more than 11 per cent in Paterson.

“Labor have had three years to secure an Urgent Care Clinic for Paterson, but they have failed to deliver,” Laurence Antcliff said.

“Our community deserves better than political scare campaigns from a desperate Labor Government. We need results and that is what this announcement is about today. Instead of helping our community the Labor candidate has had to resort to launching a petition to her own government while the mayor of Maitland is using it as an opportunity to score political points. The people of Paterson don’t need more political games—they need access to affordable healthcare.”

“After the last election, Hunter, Shortland, and Newcastle all received Urgent Care Clinics, but Paterson was left behind – I will make that right.

“Only a Dutton Coalition Government will ensure Paterson gets the health infrastructure it desperately needs, easing the pressure on families and local hospitals.”
