An elected Liberal Dutton Government will commit $1.5 million for upgrades to Phillips Park in Lurnea – home of the South West Wanderers Football Club.
The upgrades will include the construction of a modular shelter, a new storage space and a new seating area to better support players, volunteers and families.
Liberal candidate for Werriwa, Sam Kayal said the South West Wanderers is a growing club that plays an important role in connecting the local community in Lurnea and across the southwest.
“The South West Wanders is a family club which deserve facilities which match their passion and commitment for local football,” Mr Kayal said.
“Now in their second decade as a club, the Wanders continue to grow their membership, particularly among young women and girls – something which should only be encouraged.”
“These upgrades will provide facilities which can fulfil the aspirations of our next generation of Matildas and Socceroos.”
Shadow Minister for Communications and Shadow Minister for Western Sydney, Melissa McIntosh, said that while the southwest continues to grow, local facilities have not kept pace.
“Families in Lurnea and across the southwest deserve and expect local leadership and only Sam Kayal can deliver that,” Mrs McIntosh said.
“Sam has been a relentless advocate for the people of Werriwa and understands how vital local sporting clubs, like the South West Wanderers are, for these communities to flourish.”
“I know Sam will be a fighter for the southwest who is unafraid to roll up his sleeves to deliver better outcomes for local families.”
This commitment is part of the Liberals’ plan to get Australia back on track.
