An elected Dutton Liberal Government has committed $9 million to a much-needed upgrade of the Bega Valley War Memorial Swimming Pool.
Liberal candidate for Eden-Monaro, Jo van der Plaat, said Bega Pool has served the Bega Valley well for more than 60 years, but it no longer measures up to current standards and community needs.
“An upgraded Bega Pool will have a 10-lane 25 metre pool, warm water pool, wading pool with water play features, accessible facilities and incorporate an environmentally sustainable design,” Mrs van der Plaat said.
“This commitment will help deliver a modern, accessible and fit-for-purpose aquatic facility that can be used for water sports, exercise, rehabilitation, recreation and water safety education.
“An upgraded Bega Pool will give locals a way to maintain and improve their health and wellbeing as well as provide a great place for swimming lessons and developing water safety skills.
“It will also finally deliver a local facility for Bega that is accessible for locals of all ages and abilities.”
Shadow Minister for Health and Aged Care and Shadow Minister for Sport, Senator the Hon Anne Ruston, said the Albanese Labor Government had failed the Bega Valley by ignoring the funding request from the Bega Valley Shire Council for the project.
“The Sapphire Coast has an unrivalled advocate in Jo van der Plaat, who will continue to fight hard to ensure that the Bega Valley has the facilities its locals deserve,” Senator Ruston said.
“The Liberals’ commitment to delivering upgrades to important local facilities, like Bega Pool, will help get Eden-Monaro and Australia back on track.”
